Winter Update
5 February 2007Fellow Sunfish Sailors,
Hope you are staying warm during this winter and that your favorite team wins the Super Bowl. It is not exactly comfortable Sunfish weather this time of year in most of the SE Region. However, I hope you are getting ready to head South for the yearly March pilgrimage to Florida. The Midwinters regatta is in Fort Myers March 9 – 11 and the following weekend the International Masters regatta is March 16 – 18 in Port Charlotte. Many sailors escape the cold north for these two regattas which are conveniently arranged on consecutive weekends to act as bookends on a warm vacation. We have a vacation home in Port Charlotte less than 5 minutes from the Masters regatta site and about an hour from the Midwinters so I’ll be at both. It’s a bit cold today with the high in the 60s but typically the high is in the upper 70s with the low about 60, water temp in upper 60s. Please let me know if you are coming to any of these regattas so I can look out for you. In fact there is a Valentine’s Massacre regatta in Port Charlotte this coming weekend that some will use as a practice for the Masters. For links to the NORs, see the US page under http://www.sunfishclass.org .
It is time to send in the regatta schedule for the coming season to the Windward Leg, the official class newsletter. If your club is hosting a regatta appropriate for Sunfish and you have not already done so please send me the information including name of regatta, dates, host club and location, contact person and information, whether it is open, discounted for US sailing, etc. If you like I can send you last years schedule so you can just edit it.
Cheers, Rose Rowland
